Having said this, there are a lot worse guitars out there, and as well as being historically important, the 1820 bass can certainly provide the goods when required. FENDER BANDMASTER 2X12 SPEAKER CABINET (1962) COVER - 32' W x 20' H x 11 1/2' D. This is a 1968 Fender Bandmaster guitar amplifier head, silverface, drip-edge with AB763 circuit same as blackface as far as I know. Over the course of the 70s, the Japanese output improved dramatically, and in many ways these early 70s models are a low point for the brand. These new Epiphones were based on existing Matsumoku guitars, sharing body shapes, and hardware, but the Epiphone line was somewhat upgraded, with inlaid logos and a 2x2 peghead configuration. The Matsumoku factory had been producing guitars for export for some time, but the 1820 bass (alongside a number of guitar models and the 5120 electric acoustic bass) were the first Epiphone models to be made there. Good luck.By the end of the 1960s, a decision had been made to move Epiphone guitar production from the USA (at the Kalamazoo plant where Gibson guitars were made), to Matsumoto in Japan, creating a line of guitars and basses significantly less expensive than the USA-built models (actually less than half the price). When I purchased the second of my drives, I was testing it on a Bogner cab loaded with V30's and thus was the reason for my choice. The orginal speaker choice, Emminence Swamp Thang, did not yield the nice tones I had been expecting from the newly purchased drives. Here are some photos of the cabinet when I first bought it home two weeks ago. Also, since I went back to a very clean head (Schroeder DB7, he also built the cabinet), I have had to use OD pedals for dirt. BTW, I did happen to notice that the schematic seems to indicate some sort of insulation being used in the cabinet. We did place fiberglass batting in between the fins but I can't believe how rich this thing sounds (I had a V30 installed). On the other hand (pun intended), it has an absolutely huge sound and if you place it vertically, it seems to accentuate the high end a little better than when it's horizontal. Its premium birch-ply construction and Celestion. It is approximately the same size as the Bandmaster cabinet, but I can carry it easily with one hand. The Fender Band-Master VM 2x12 speaker enclosure gives you onstage versatility and great Fender tone. My cabinet is fitted for a 12" speaker, but essentially the same idea as the schematic. I had never heard of this design before, but I'm totally sold now. The head and speaker cabinet both retain their original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth, and one will note that the grillcloth represents two. Just to throw a different thought your way, I recently purchased a custom build on the old Tone Ring design and couldn't be happier. Two 40-watters would be more than enough. I think two 80 watt speakers is overkill and will run up your budget without improving your tone. But why make a classic BF Fender try to sound like one?īTW, with the original OT your Bandmaster probably isn't putting out much more than 35 watts if that. ![]() But that's my bias away from Vox/Marshall and towards clean BF Fender tones. Personally I'd recommend thinking about going partial open back-I think its more of a Fendery sound-and some of the Emi or Weber speakers voiced more like old Jensens, again I think it's more of a Fendery sound. Those Fender piggy back 2X12s are big and heavy! Be careful what you wish for (or what you have to have shipped to HI!). I have a Tremolux sized piggy cab set up as a partial open back 1X15 instead of the closed 2X10-I'm not crazy about the sound or directionality of those Fender closed back cabs. ![]() 4x12 Guitar Speaker Cabinet / 4 12 Speakers. This is a quality heavy duty vinyl protective cover for a Fender Bandmaster 2x12 Speaker Cabinet (1962) - 32 W X 20 H X 11 1/2 D. I rock a '66 Bandmaster (w/ a Bassman sized OT) that I really like-warm, full, clean, not a great amp if you're looking for non-pedal break up, but a great clean amp and good pedal platform. 4x12 Guitar Speaker Cabinet / 4 12 Speakers. ![]()
